Polarized
sunglasses
- these are an invaluable item to have on
holiday not only because they reduce the reflection
off the water, you can actually see into the
water. The reef will become much more visible
and you will be able to check out the underwater
wildlife without even getting wet.
Sunscreen
- a big definite to have. The tropical sun
in the Whitsundays is very strong and catches
people out all the time. Even a short time
in the sun can have a devastating effect
on your holiday. Consider upgrading your
normal sunscreen to a greater protection
and a waterproof type.
Footwear
- reef shoes, sandals or an old pair of
sandshoes are a great way to experience
the beaches without ending up with coral
cuts or oyster cuts. During sailing cruises,
you will be mostly barefoot onboard, and
slip on shoes for the beach. Around the
resorts and mainland comfortable walking
shoes are suitable.
Hat
- a broad brimmed hat will provide that
extra protection when wandering around town,
lazing on the beach, sitting on deck or
sailing the Whitsundays. It also protects
the top of the ears, a place visitors tend
to forget with the sunscreen.
